How Often Should I Have My Piano Tuned?

Picture
How frequently a piano "needs" to be tuned depends on a few things such as the tuning criteria of the person playing it, what the piano will be used for, the environment the piano is in, and whether the piano has brand new strings .

At one extreme, pianos used for professional performances are usually tuned before every performance. Clearly, that is not the standard for most pianos.

I recommend that pianos in general be tuned at least twice a year - when the seasons change from dry (winter) to humid (summer) and back again. If a piano is to be tuned only once a year, it's best to schedule the tuning at the same time each year.
